Find premium clients
When I started freelancing almost ten years ago, I used a variety of methods to reach out to potential clients. I placed an ad in the local yellow pages (no lead whatsoever), I sent out hundreds of emails to translation agencies (this landed me a couple of jobs), but by far the most efficient way of promotion was using the features that are available on ProZ.com.
Most of my new clients now come from ProZ.com, and I have to say that fine-tuning my profile has generated some pretty good "matches" (clients that are willing to pay my rates for specific subject areas). I think ProZ.com is a great source of new clients and it is also hugely helpful in avoiding bad payers.
We have been members for one year now, and we are very satisfied because, while we get one or two jobs per year through the ProZ.com job system, most of the jobs we get come from customers who found us on the ProZ.com directory.
Once I discovered ProZ.com, I immediately became a member and started to reply to job offers. Now, thanks to ProZ.com I have many good clients all over the world.Thanks to ProZ.com my dream of becoming a full-time freelance translator has come true, together with a good income. I must say that I continue to be breathless at how well ProZ.com anticipates / accommodates the needs of freelance translators. . . I was tearing my hair out and tossing small wads of money down the drain trying to find an invoicing program that did only what yours now does and nothing more.

It's definitely worth it. I've been a registered user at ProZ.com since 2002, but only started getting jobs through the site after becoming a member. The membership fee paid back after the first order.
This past year has been great. I woke up one morning deciding to go back to translating full time but I was not 100% sure that my decision was the right one. I left my "safe" English teaching job and recontacted my old clients. It didn't take long and I was soon back on track. Thanks to ProZ I have made contacts with new agencies around the world. I have met colleagues worldwide and found new friends... Words are my passion and this is the ideal job for me with growing children who love to see me around. My small office at home is not a lonely place at all and may I say I have never been happier. Thanks

1. The BlueBoard - where avoiding one bad payer will cover your subscription
2. The Translators' Directory - where clients go looking for translators.
I've met several good translators here and get plenty of interesting work on a regular basis directly through my profile. That alone is worth the price of membership.
A few months ago I bid on a job because it called my name. The poster happily agreed to my rate and we've been working together ever since!

I just wanted to say I think this site is fantastic, I've been a member for a couple of years now and I've had so much help from it - getting work, using the KudoZ facility and making contact with other translators.
In my case, an agency found me on ProZ.com and I got a dream job (10-year full time translation project) which changed my life completely. Later, I found a job post on ProZ which put me into $10K book translation project. Just 2 big ones in years but these were real jewels.
ProZ.com is my main “marketing tool”. I have no doubt that ProZ.com has contributed tremendously to my professional growth, and not just because of my profile, but also because of the site's excellent tools and resources. I am very happy with ProZ.com services. I guess what I am trying to say is: Wow, I’m impressed!

I am convinced that without ProZ.com, I would never have made the contacts I need to work as a full time professional translator. Not only have I received job offers, but I have also established valuable relationships with other translators which have evolved into a mutual support network of trusted colleagues.
I am lucky that I am high in the directory for my language pair. I get more direct requests than I can keep up with and the rest of my jobs are referrals.
