Discussion

Chema Nieto Castañón Nov 26, 2023:
Path / pathway I think your initial guess is the most natural option here (impacted canine repositioning):

Occasionally bone removal is necessary to expose the buried tooth and create a path through which the tooth can erupt.

Andrew Bramhall Nov 23, 2023:
For me it's 'channel' or 'pathway' but not ' path' on its own. I agree with PG about this being a likely translation from Spanish in the first place, and with TC about ' camino de dirección' referring to the dental implant.
Helena Chavarria Nov 23, 2023:
@Toni I was thinking of correcting misaligned teeth, though it doesn't really matter. I think 'path' works well.
philgoddard Nov 23, 2023:
Yes, presumably that's why they use 'pieza' and not 'diente'.
Osteotomy simply means bone removal, not necessarily to correct deformities.
Toni Castano Nov 23, 2023:
@Helena As I said, everything is actually possible. But the only point I´m sure about is that "camino de dirección" refers to the "pieza", i.e. the dental implant.
Helena Chavarria Nov 23, 2023:
@Toni I didn't know it was for a dental implant. I know several people, including myself, who have implants but none of use needed an osteotomy, which I understand is a procedure for correcting dentofacial deformities and involves cutting the jaw.
philgoddard Nov 23, 2023:
I wondered if this was also a translation from English, like your other question today, but I couldn't find this sentence in the English paper. It may be that the Spanish authors plagiarised bits of the text.
Toni Castano Nov 23, 2023:
@Helena "Cambio de dirección" for a dental implant? I don´t think so, but I´m open to any surprise.
Helena Chavarria Nov 23, 2023:
I don't want to confuse matters but could 'camino de dirección' be a typo for 'cambio de dirección'?
schmetterlich (asker) Nov 23, 2023:
Thank you.
Toni Castano Nov 23, 2023:
@Schmetterlich I agree with "path" for "camino de dirección" being the Spanish expression a highly sophisticated way of just saying "trayectoria", the word that seems more natural in this context.

or 'pathway' not literal, but covers the meaning IMHO.
