English term

probes

English to French Medical Medical (general) autism
Hello,

I am translating an assessment table for a child with autism (shcool goals and progress).

Here comes this paragraph:

Area of Need: Social and Emotional
Goal: By April 2023, when presented with materials in the classroom, during whole group instruction, XXX will independently sit and attend to activities presented with no more than three prompts in a 10 minute observation period, across 3 single probes in a one week period, as observed and recorded by teacher and or staff.

I decided to translate 'prompts' as 'sollicitations/invites' but can't think of something goog for probes.

Any help?

Thanks!

Thanks Daryo, as I mentioned to Samuel, "évaluation" (des apprentissages) me semble correct ici.
VeroniquePhelut (asker) Oct 11, 2023:
Thanks Samuel for the references. I think "évaluation" (des apprentissages) is a good fit here.
Daryo Oct 11, 2023:
It is useful it does confirm that "probe sessions" make a pair with "instructional sessions", and are a kind of test/evaluation of what was learned in "instructional sessions".
Samuël Buysschaert Oct 11, 2023:
May be useful,

Examples from Csesa (The Center on Secondary Education for Students with Autism Spectrum Disorders) / Autismpdc (The National Professional Development Center on Autism Spectrum Disorder)
Daryo Oct 11, 2023:
This "probe" could also be seen a form of "assessment"?

It is some kind of "exploration". As far as I can see from

https://www.researchgate.net/figure/Clinical-Probes-for-Auti...

a "probe" is some kind of testing/examination for the presence or absence if some specific behaviour. Like "un sondage" of public opinion, of of what's underground.

So it looks like "sondes/sondage" [not in the sense of a physical exam, but in the sense of "looking to establish facts"] could make sense.

"Source file" for reference https://www.google.com/url?sa=t&rct=j&q=&esrc=s&source=web&c...
VeroniquePhelut (asker) Oct 11, 2023:
@ Daryo Thanks, however, a probe is not necessarily a "testing session" as, for instance, in the last extract I mentioned:

This benchmark is in progress. XXX independently sits and attends to activities presented with no more than 10 prompts in a 10 minute observation period, 0 single probes in a one week period.
= During a 10 min observation period, 10 prompts, but 0 probes.

Daryo Oct 11, 2023:
In effect here a "probe" means "one testing session", i.e. "one testing session" would be lasting 10 minutes during which no more than 3 prompts would be given.

A "probe" would be exploring / testing / establishing the actual facts. Not much different from a clinical examination.

There ought to be at least few relevant texts in French where the term effectively used in the professional jargon could be found.

https://www.ba-eservice.info/vocabulaire

https://www.has-sante.fr/upload/docs/application/pdf/eval_in...

ou

https://www.cnsa.fr/recherche-et-innovation/resultats-de-rec...

VeroniquePhelut (asker) Oct 11, 2023:
I don't thin so, it comes several times. For instance, later on it says:

Summary of Progress: This benchmark is in progress. XXX independently sits and attends to activities presented with no more than 10 prompts in a 10 minute observation period, 0 single probes in a one week period.
Comment: At this time he was redirected on average 12 times across 3 probes.

Could this be a typo for prompts?

sondes

[Infective endocarditis on probe of pacemaker]
Note from asker:

neutral liz askew : this does not involve a medical device

disagree Daryo : You might be right about "sondes/sondage" but you're definitely using the wrong references. Using wrong references is not going to help anyone looking at this question in the future, it's almost worst than a plain wrong answer!!
