I have experimented with this in the past, but unfortunately cannot remember this point and cannot find this piece of information on the maxprogramms website:

Do SDLXLIFF files have to be presegmented prior to be imported into Swordfish?

Thanks a lot for experiences on this.
Geneviève.

Presegment them Feb 22, 2013

Rodolfo has the last word on it, but I think it is best/safest to presegment them, and copy source to target. You can always clear the targets after importing into Swordfish.

Piotr

The problem is about paying for a licence Feb 22, 2013

The fact is that I want to live completely without Trados: I don't want to pay a licence only to use it as a presegmentation and conversion tool. Also, customers are mostly not willing to deliver presegmented SDLXILIFF files and to convert the TM to TMX to their language providers.
I am looking for a solution that makes me completely independent of Trados.

No need to pre-segment in Trados Feb 22, 2013

Swordfish can segment SDLXLIFF files. There is no need to pre-segment in Trados Studio.

Rodolfo

Living without SDL: is it possible? Feb 23, 2013

I'm not sure whether that is possible. I think you should always run a verification check in Studio before you send your translation to your client.

Yes, that's possible. Feb 23, 2013

Yes, that's actually possible. There are lots of translators working on Mac OS X and Linux that can't run Trados and work without problems.

Rodolfo

Thanks Feb 25, 2013

Thanks a lot for your info, Rodolfo.

I remember from my prior tests that the files could be seamless read again in Trados.

Have a nice week, everybody.

Geneviève

I think they have other SDLXLIFF files than I have: mine cause Studio to reject the pseudo-translation from Swordfish. I've reported this to tech@... but I got no answer to my question whether I still have support for my license.
