Spanish term

agresiones

Spanish to English Marketing Cosmetics, Beauty Face cream
This is for a marketing text for face cream.
Clearly, "aggressions" isn't right, so I'm looking for some inspiration please.

"Las crema Q10 día hidratan y se absorben rápidamente por la piel para una máxima protección contra las agresiones exteriores."

Many thanks
Votes to reclassify question as PRO/non-PRO:

Non-PRO (1): Yvonne Gallagher

When entering new questions, KudoZ askers are given an opportunity* to classify the difficulty of their questions as 'easy' or 'pro'. If you feel a question marked 'easy' should actually be marked 'pro', and if you have earned more than 20 KudoZ points, you can click the "Vote PRO" button to recommend that change.

How to tell the difference between "easy" and "pro" questions:

An easy question is one that any bilingual person would be able to answer correctly. (Or in the case of monolingual questions, an easy question is one that any native speaker of the language would be able to answer correctly.)

A pro question is anything else... in other words, any question that requires knowledge or skills that are specialized (even slightly).

Another way to think of the difficulty levels is this: an easy question is one that deals with everyday conversation. A pro question is anything else.

When deciding between easy and pro, err on the side of pro. Most questions will be pro.

* Note: non-member askers are not given the option of entering 'pro' questions; the only way for their questions to be classified as 'pro' is for a ProZ.com member or members to re-classify it.

Discussion

Comunican (asker) Aug 11, 2020:
@Althea Thank you. By agresiones exteriores, it means solar radiation, pollution, temperature changes and smoking...
Althea Draper Aug 11, 2020:
If this has UVA or UVB protection then it could be referring specifically to a protection against the effects of the sun.

‘environmental stressors’

4 KudoZ points awarded for this answer. Comment: "Wide ranging and some very helpful suggestions here, thank you. In the end, I mostly used "stressors" (as well as "damage" or "damaging effects" depending on the specific context). Thanks all! "

(external) damage

Literally its more like "external attacks", but usually in English skincare marketing we talk about "damage" in this kind of context.
Note from asker:
ah, interesting, you've gone for the effect (the damage) rather than the action (the aggression or attacks). Thanks
@ormiston: "onslaught" was my placeholder for a while, but I agree damage sounds nicer!
Peer comment(s):

agree Gareth Rhys-Jones López : Agresiones is a very common word in this context and I believe this is the most appropriate translation.

agree philgoddard : I don't think "external" is necessary.

You're right. I actually think "signs of damage" would usually be what you see in this case, because skincare companies don't want to be caught making an unverified medical claim.
neutral Michele Fauble : Damage would be the effects, stressors the cause.

True! I think that English skincare tends to talk about the effects rather than the cause, except when it's specific about the causes (UVA rays, pollution, etc.). But it's a matter of preference to some degree.

neutral Yvonne Gallagher : as Michele says, this is the effect rather than the factor causing the damage

effects

Hi!

You could also refer to "effects".
Example sentence:

The effects of chemical pollution on skin.

Skink exposures and effects.

aggressions

I know this seems strange but I have done a lot of cosmetic translations and this term is commonly used:

Every day, skin and hair are subjected to many stress and environmental factors such as pollution, heat, radiation (UV, infrared, etc.), chemical products or microorganisms (bacteria, yeasts, etc.). As these external aggressions are considered as factors of oxidative stress, inflammation or DNA damages, they can alter skin quality, increase skin sensitivity and lead to premature ageing.

To fight these aggressions, the skin has innate defense and protection mechanisms, on which an active ingredient or cosmetic compound can have an effect: pH, commensal flora, sebum, antimicrobial substances, antioxidant enzymes, detoxification enzymes, immune cells, etc
https://www.bioalternatives.com/en/cosmetic-claims/skin-prot...

However, skin aging and external aggressions are crucial factors that prevent the skin’s hydrolipidic film (protective film covering the skin’s surface) from playing its role of protective barrier and water loss regulator.
https://www.neutrogena.ca/beauty-and-skincare-tips/managing-...

Prebiotics such as Lactitol and Xylitol are moisturising substances that selectively protect and restore the skin microbiota, which forms part of the skin’s defence mechanisms against external aggressions. They help to restore the balance of the skin’s ecosystem by promoting the growth of beneficial germs to the detriment of harmful germs. Their selectivity is based on the ability of these germs to transform enzymatic polyols into assimilable sugars.
https://www.martiderm.com/en/active-ingredients/prebiotics

attacks is also used but aggressions is used more often.

In the present study, two research groups led by Yenan Bryceson and Liv Eidsmo show how these two subgroups of T cell operate to protect healthy skin from external attacks and retain their unique functions in psoriasis and vitiligo.

Note from asker:
well that certainly seems counter-intuitive, but hard to argue with all those great examples! Thank you!
Peer comment(s):

neutral philgoddard : I think some, if not all of your references are translations or non-native English. Aggression is specific to humans and other animals.
2 hrs
Thank you, Phil. I had the same doubt but don't think that 302,000 examples of this can all be bad translations.
agree neilmac : "Microaggressions" would be nice too, if it hadn't been hijacked by the PC crowd...
17 hrs
Thanks Neil
neutral Emma Page : I don't quite think hijacked is right, as I've never heard this (edit: meaning microagressions) being used to refer to skin damage in any context.
19 hrs
Thanks Emma. I haven't suggested hijacked.

We talk about environmental factors, so I would say "external elements", such as sun and wind.
