Clinical trials
Hi everyone, seeking assistance to correctly render this "in cieco" in English in particular sentences.
the context is a blind (or blinded) clinical trial of a certain drug. Example sentences are as follows:
Il farmaco xxxxx o il placebo Le verranno somministrati in due cicli in cieco di 28 giorni.
Durante la visita le verrà richiesto di assumere la prima dose in cieco.
Trattamento con xxxxx in cieco
I understand what a blinded trial is, there's no problem there... I am just struggling with coming up with a natural way to say "in cieco" in other sentences.
For extra context, I should add that the drug is a product for self-administration (so the patient prepares it and takes it themselves, without any assistance from doctors or other clinical personnel), this is pre-empting the use of the expression "to undergo blind administration" which I have thought of but would not be exactly fitting here.
Thanks to all in advance for your help.

blind/blinded
Usually, with these trials, neither the patient nor the study doctor know WHICH medication they are taking. For all intents and purposes the patient is preparing and taking a mixture and does not know what it contains, hence he is 'blind'.
The opposite would be an 'open-label' drug, where everyone knows the active ingredient/preparation being administered.

Note from asker:
Thank you for your suggestions. By reading your answer perhaps I gather that my question was not clear enough... I know the meaning of blinded and there is no issue there. But expressions such as 'blinded treatment cycles' or 'blinded treatment' or 'blinded dose' are not common in English. I was after some suggestions as to how to render "in cieco" in these and other similar phrases. |

: I think there are enough google hits for "a blinded dose of" to make this a viable option.

Comment: "Thank you. After a bit of dwelling I decided that 'blinded' was indeed the best option for my phrases. Joseph's peer comments were also very useful."

: "on blind" is not it, sorry - "with blinding" maybe

: Ciao ... :) This is a grammar problem: "on" blind is just not a phrase you would find in English (although "en ciego" works perfectly well in Spanish).
