I keep getting this film stuff and I never go to the flicks and only rarely watch TV... such is life.
This is a category of VHS that is repeated throughout my text, for example:
"La *fiction cinematografica* (esclusa animation e family) ha un ruolo determinante anche nelle presenza home video in edicola, seppure il canale dedichi quasi un dieci percento a prodotti vari, fra i quali i musicali e gli educational hanno lo spazio maggiore".
What kind of genre is this in your ops?

PS I remember asking about "fiction" once before, but that was a strictly TV genre (I think "Italian soaps" was the consensus).

I think you need to include «fiction» in the translation, as opposed mainly to «documentary» films but also other genres, for instance «animation».

Despite the attractiveness of "full length feature film", in the end I chose "fiction movie", reassured by cb's Hoepli and staying rather close to the Italian due to a slight attack of nerves.

Could this be referring to the actual storyline being written specifically for that medium (movies)?
If it's for the big screen maybe screenplay, otherwise for TV/video it could be teleplay.

: The sentence atcually includes «animantion», «family» «musical», and «educational» as other genres that have a significant weight on the HOME VIDEO, and not theatrical, market.
