Yeah, I'd also love to use Markdown on the forum. It's more convenient than HTML tags and quicker to write than WYSIWYG (using the mouse to select text and click buttons). I'm so used to writing in Markdown that I use #, > and * or ** to indicate headings, quotes and emphasis whenever I write notes. That's the advantage of a system where the raw code is easy to read.

Markdown is supported by Reddit, Github and Wordpress. I used it professionally to review articles written in Wordpress. The blog platform I use for personal posts is one of many open-source projects that support it - which in this case means that it's compact enough to be saved on a blockchain.

The downside is that it's not standardized. Advanced features like superscript or tables may or may not be supported.
