CafeTran Espresso
CafeTran Espresso's target segment editor provides a button bar for inserting bold, italic, underline, superscript, subscript and highlight formatting. Keyboard shortcuts are also available for these character formats. Word selection can include several adjacent words by simply clicking anywhere in these adjacent words and dragging over the next word(s) (like in Ms Word).
Correcting the start and end of a segment is possible via keyboard shortcuts. Case adjustment is possible (also automatically), as is the removal of defined characters. Transposition of selections is possible.
A new feature is the ability to move the text cursor to a pressed character. This feature is very useful when tagging text. In addition, the target segment editor accepts selected text from all active resources (TMs, MTs, glossaries, etc.) by simply dragging over (parts of) these resources. Automatic adjustment of trailing spaces when dragging over words is available (like in Ms Word).

OmegaT
OmegaT provides case matching and other basic features (copy source to target, etc.). All in all, there are less useful features available here.

Auto-assembly
Auto-assembly is the automatic insertion of the first target term of each recognized term pair in the assigned glossaries into the target segment editor.
CafeTran Espresso
In CafeTran Espresso this feature is called "Autoassembling". Recognized terms at the beginning of a segment are optionally inserted with the first letter in upper case. The automatic insertion of target terms can be overridden by pressing the right mouse button. In this way, other target terms than the first one in the glossary can be inserted automatically. Just once, or for the rest of the translation session. CafeTran Espresso can also insert specific target segments depending on specific words in the rest of the source segment.
Read more about glossaries here.
OmegaT
OmegaT also offers auto-assembly, but here it is called "Replace matches when inserting source text" in the glossary preferences.

I admit that this may have something to do with my use of CafeTran Espresso for many years, but I find it difficult to immediately identify the open (active) segment in the "segment grid" of OmegaT. I'm not sure I could get used to it:

(In CafeTran Espresso's grid, there is a clear orange box around the currently edited target segment.)
Question to investigate: Can glossaries be made case-sensitive in OmegaT?

With a few settings, you can make it look clear as day. Have a look at my screenshot. The active segment is always in the middle, but it's also the only one where the target segment does not have a yellow background.

What do you think? Isn't that more ergonomic? It might look a bit too colourful at first glance, but it really helps me. | | | To report site rules violations or get help, contact a site moderator: You can also contact site staff by submitting a support request » CafeTran Espresso vs. OmegaT - Segment Editors Anycount & Translation Office 3000 | Translation Office 3000
