Consciously? Nov 2, 2022

Well, my children left the nest long ago, I live alone with my daughter’s dog, so my schedule is around work and her, but I’m very organized. All my close friends and family are fully aware of what I do and understand the nature of my job. Over the years, I might have cancelled or postponed occasionally something trivial like going to the cinema or shopping, but never more "serious" stuff like medical appointments, travel, holidays, marriages, anniversaries. Just between you and me, I sometimes use my work as an excuse not to do something I’m not very keen on doing.Collapse

What kind of question is that? Nov 3, 2022

This question is akin to proverbial "Have you stopped beating your wife?".
I don't schedule my life except when strictly necessary, and have always been happy about that.

Yes, clearly Nov 3, 2022

As I'm getting older (I'm 60 now), work becomes less important and time for sport and other activities is more important than it used to be.
To get everything done in one day takes clearly some organisation.

When I was an employee, I had to fit everything round work, now I fit work in round my other commitments such as taking the dog out twice a day, shopping at the local organic market, going swimming at the times when the pool is most likely to be empty, seeing friends and family, taking in a film at the local cinema, which prides itself on showing lots of films, you just have to be able to go at scheduled times. It does make life much more pleasant, I just love taking off for a swim in the afternoon while office workers can't, even if I had to start early to get my daily word quota finished beforehand.
So it's very conscious. I remember translators I used to send work to who always sounded like they were completely stressed out, and I very much want to avoid falling into that kind of trap.
