So many simple things take me so long to work out in this software...

I'd like to sort the files in the Files View by date, and can't find such a simple option (date) among the sorting/columns options.

These are files I normally add to the project after it's been created. (Not packages, for which there seem to be plenty of dates...)

Thanks for any helpful tip...

Doron

Add date to the view Feb 6, 2012

AFAIR (I do not have the possibility to check now) if you right click the bar with file name and other criteria in Files view, you should be able to chose which information shall be shown there. Add the date. When added, clicking on the date tab will sort.

If only there was a "date" option there among the many options...
Thanks, Jerzy, but it's simply not there.

Unfortunately there is no date field for this Feb 6, 2012

Hi Doron,

Maybe you could add the date to the start of the filename for all of your files and then you can use the filename filter to sort them?

I appreciate a date would be better for your usecase. This is the first time I have a request for this; do you think it's a common one?

Regards

Paul

Oy vey Paul... Feb 6, 2012

That's what my grandmother would have said (holding her head)...

I seem to be finding only the small irritating things in Studio, but with a list including dozens files this becomes more than just irritating.

As for your suggestion, the thing is, many clients wouldn't like me to mess with the file names.

Can you add that to the ToDo list please?

Thanks, Doron

Not quite the first, Paul
I remember asking about this a couple of years ago, but have got used to the lack of it since then. For those of us who use projects on an on-going basis (i.e. adding new files as they come along) it would certainly be very useful.

Files list is already a mess Feb 6, 2012

I am a new user (with only 7 self-created files, and 3 from clients with multiple documents) and already the disorder is disturbing. I shudder to think what it will look like next month.

I would love to sort the Files view by date.

How can that be? Feb 6, 2012

The file list belongs to a project, so how can it be, that it is a mess like you describe?
When using the "Open document" command, the file list may contain ONLY one single file, so it can't be mess.
Or do you refer to Project list? This can be easily sorted by creation date for example.

Sorting Feb 6, 2012

Hi,

ok - I will ensure this message is passed onto Product Management. I think if you work with packages, or with Projects as individual jobs then you have the created date to sort on at project level, but when you use a project per customer and keep adding files (and there is nothing wrong with this approach) then we should have a date here to sort on.

I generally add a date in this format (120206) to the start of all important files I get so I can easily sort them in

Hi,

ok - I will ensure this message is passed onto Product Management. I think if you work with packages, or with Projects as individual jobs then you have the created date to sort on at project level, but when you use a project per customer and keep adding files (and there is nothing wrong with this approach) then we should have a date here to sort on.

I generally add a date in this format (120206) to the start of all important files I get so I can easily sort them in explorer and in Studio using the filename and also see clearly whether the version is different because my dates are different, but I understand why you may not want to do this (... or why you should not have to do it).

So, message taken on board.

Regards

Paul

We're talking about the Files View, just below the Projects View.

When i properly create a long-term project, then wish to add files later on (not through Open Document), I can see many files there, with no useful sorting order.

I fully understand your point of view.
But...
[quote]I am a new user (with only 7 self-created files, and 3 from clients with multiple documents) and already the disorder is disturbing.[/quiote]
this seems not to refer to files view - "3 from clients with multiple documents" are certainly not single files.
And the projects view is far from being cluttered in any way. It can be sorted on creation date, so this is not a valid argument here.
I was only referring to this.

Sorry, Jerzy, I thought the description needed some backing, but now I see we're both actually talking of the same thing.

Btw, I'm following your (I think...) recommendation to do everything in Projects - thanks for that!

IMHO the best way to use Studio, indeed. I create projects for everything I get. And on top of this, I create project TM for all projects.
It is only feasible, when you are getting projects which are then closed when finished. If you wish to add files to project, using PTM might not be the best idea, as it would be too time consuming.

Still no sorting by date? Jul 14, 2016

I googled to see how I could sort files by date within a Project. I am now using Trados 2015 and unless I am mistaken, I still don't see this feature implemented.
