Hi,

I would be very grateful for any help that anyone could give me in answer to the following questions:

- Do I have to uninstall TRADOS on my old laptop before installing it on my new one?
- Do I have to pay for a new licence or could I use my existing licence again?
- How does one speak to someone at SDL to get basic instructions on this type of issue?
- What's the difference between an activation code and a licence?

Thanks in advance,

P.S. A move towards getting the SDL website Crystal Clear English certified should definitely be on the agenda. Who agrees?

No licence needed Jul 11, 2008

You don't need to purchase a new license, you can use your current one.

If the new an the old computer are not linked on the same network, you are able to install Trados on both without uninstalling the previous one (license for two computers if they are not linked, so it's explained on the Trados troubleshooting service on line).

I had a few problems of memory on my old computer so I installed Trados on my new computer (with vista) and, because of compatibility problems (at this time, now the SP2 version on trados 2007 and multiterm works perfectly on vista) I had to install, uninstall and re-install again so I could practice Trados install

you can check information on the official website

http://talisma.sdl.com/display/2n/index.aspx?c=&cpc=&cid=&cat=&catURL=&r=0.420855760574341

sorry but I can remember the difference between activation code and license.
I don't know how to contact directly the SDL staff because I'm living in Japan and I think it was impossible to call them (but not sure), if you purchased the support option when you bought Trados, you should have all the relevant information somewhere, if not, I don't know (it seems there's no free of charge support service anymore, I choose the option because I was a new user but I don't know if the support is also available for those who don't pay)

good luck, maybe it will be easier than you think to install Trados on your new computer (there's a lot of automatic functions)

Thanks Jul 11, 2008

Thanks Tanguy that's perfect. I spent ages going round in circles on the SDL website so thought I would just ask and hope to get plain English! Thank you very much.
