I thought of maybe translating it as personification, or embodiment, but I am still not sure about it.

Yo me quedaría con el término "embodiment", no tanto "personification". El texto de seguro se refiere a traducir al cuerpo el dominio en la forma del dolor. "Personification", en este caso, no sería aplicable, ya que este término se utiliza más en el sentido de alegoría.
