Spanish term

el responsable máximo de la empresa

Spanish to English Tech/Engineering Science (general) Nanotechnology
Hello again

I would appreciate some help with this phrase in a text on nanotechnology and its applications.

"Estos materiales pueden aplicarse a pinturas, automóviles o estructuras expuestas al sol", dice el fundador y responsable máximo de la empresa. También trabaja sobre nanomateriales resistentes al olor.

Thank you!

head of the company

I always translate "máximo responsable" as "head". You can't put CEO or managing director unless you go the company's website and can confirm this person's position.

agree John Cutler : I agree. The title in Spanish is too vague to put anything more specific than this.

Thanks John. Yes, and "founder and head of" is a very common expression so it fits in perfectly.

Note from asker:
Thank you! Managing Director has been mentioned before, and it is the same bloke, so this will suit:)
It was the MD in this instance, but to avoid repetition (it cropped up two sentences previously) I chose "Head..." Thank you!

chief executive officer (CEO) OR head of the company

This phrase sound like a classical case of the need in spanish to avoid repetitions.

It may well be clear from the rest of the document what this person's official designation in the company is, (the writer just felt it would sound ugly and uneducated to repeat the exact words) or else you can look on the company's website.

However, the CEO is the top person in a company, or alternatively "head of" usually works for "responsable"
