Spanish term

caja de curaciones

Spanish to English Medical Medical: Instruments obstetrics and gynecology
Hi,
I don't have a lot of context because this is a list of equipment/supplies being provided in the context of improving care for pregnant women/unborn and newborn babies. When I look at images online a "caja de curaciones" contains what looks like instruments for minor surgery, but the previous item on the list is "Caja de cirugía menor" which I've translated as "Minor surgery kit." Does anyone have any idea what "caja de curaciones refers to?" It's not simply a first aid kit because all the items on the list are much more specialized than that.

The items are being provided from Argentina to Venezuela, but I'm not sure which country the document is from, probably Argentina.

Thanks in advance!
Diana

surgical first aid kit

I guess a home first aid kit won't be equipped the same as a war zone first aid kit

4 KudoZ points awarded for this answer. Comment: "I'm going to use this, although many of the terms you suggested could have also been correct. Because of the other items on the table, this one is similar yet different enough to fit, since I don't have an exact description of the contents of each of the boxes. Thank you all for chiming in with your valuable comments! Diana "

birth kit

In this context, I think this is the term. It includes many little things to help the "clean" delivery of the baby (for both mother and baby)

Caja de curaciones

As far as I can see, the 'minor surgery kits' are the instruments themselves, normally in a zippered pouch, whereas the 'caja de curaciones' is a metal box, probably containing very similar instruments, but the difference is that everything can be sterilised together.

I get the impression that they are very similar, but probably don't contain the same instruments. Here in Argentina, if you have stitches taken out for example, or a wound re-bandaged, a 'caja de curaciones' is used. It doesn't count as surgery, but the instruments must be sterile.
Of course, nowadays in human medicine the tendency is to use disposable material and instruments, but my son is a veterinarian and I've often watched him sterilizing instruments in these boxes in his autoclave. I would imagine that it is still done in many parts of the world where little else is available. I suspect the only difference with a 'caja de cirugía menor' is the instruments it contains. If I see him this evening I'll ask him. Good luck!
Note from asker:
That could be the difference but then if you look at "caja de cirugía menor" on the link below, it looks like the same thing... surgical tools in a metal box. I have been translating "box" as "kit" for the most part. They couldn't be referring to just the box because each one costs over US$400, whereas the Caja de cirugía menor costs almost US$2000. The prices seem really high and there's no indication of what it contains... https://www.google.com/search?q=caja+de+curaciones&hl=en&client=firefox-a&hs=7A1&rls=org.mozilla:en-US:official&prmd=imvns&source=lnms&tbm=isch&ei=zB93T9DGL9PaiQLAy7SrDg&sa=X&oi=mode_link&ct=mode&cd=2&ved=0CBEQ_AUoAQ&biw=1366&bih=569#hl=en&client=firefox-a&hs=vVg&rls=org.mozilla:en-US%3Aofficial&tbm=isch&sa=1&q=caja+de+cirug%C3%ADa+menor&oq=caja+de+cirug%C3%ADa+menor&aq=f&aqi=&aql=&gs_l=img.3...51335l53472l0l53642l13l8l0l0l0l0l0l0ll0l0.llsin.&pbx=1&bav=on.2,or.r_gc.r_pw.r_qf.,cf.osb&fp=ab18e5b2cd3fb1c5&biw=1366&bih=569
