Discussion

Adam Burman (asker) Mar 15, 2007:
Thanks Margarita! Yes, I agree with you. I think it confused me because there was a huge chunk of text in parenthesis which I left out of this question and then "entre". Difficult to explain but the original text was not clear.

ace: Hei! Venn! Hvordan går det? :O)
Margarita M. Martínez Mar 15, 2007:
In Spanish we have "por" and "entre" (and it is enough without confussions). 5 x 5 = 25, that is 5 POR 5; while 5 / 5 = 1 is 5 ENTRE 5; you can say 5 DIVIDIDO 5 = 1 (but it is not necessary and I would say it is not usual. What for?
Margarita M. Martínez Mar 15, 2007:
I think the problem is (and it also was a little bit confusing for me when I started with maths in English) that in English you say: 5 x 5 = 25, "5 by 5"; so when you say 5 / 5 = 1 you have to say 5 "divided by" 5 to avoid confussions.

Gracias, colega.
agree Margarita M. Martínez : Sin dudas... Por otras preguntas de Adam me doy de cuenta de que en inglés does not exist the "abreviated" way to say "divided by" as in Spanish that we say only xxx "entre" xxx and that's enough. I think this is what is causing you confusion, Adam. ;)
