Definition of income tax & revenues Distinguish local and central government taxation.

Social security, national insurance and stamp duty are included in the definition of revenues.

Rents from lettings and land (property could include goods and chattels) and premiums inc. key-money paid are liable to tax (assessed in the UK under Schedule A) http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Taxation_in_the_United_Kingdom

Corporation and capital gains tax are subsumed under income tax.

@ Wendy Although social security contributions are sometimes referred to as social security tax, they are not really a tax, and are classified separately from general taxation. They are, in effect, a form of compulsory insurance premium. Rent from state property is certainly not a tax. If, for example, a state-owned building is leased to a company or individual, the rent paid by the lessee is an ordinary commercial payment which happens to be paid to the government rather than a private entity. It is state revenue, but not tax revenue.

"Recursos tributarios" doesn't just mean income tax; it includes corporation tax and many other kinds of taxation (for example indirect taxes such as VAT). It should be translated as "tax revenue", as Ray suggests.

Well, Social Security contributions are not technically taxes per se. They are public-insurance premiums. Property taxes are taxes although here the semantics in Spanish are a bit different.

Why not put: "including tax revenues, Social Security contributions and property taxes" since that is what is says.

or

you could go with "including revenues from income tax, Social Security contributions and property taxes"

I am leaning towards the first option since they could be including other taxes under the term "recursos tributarios" even though it seems they are "getting at something more specific".

Ray, wouldn't you say that the other taxes listed between parentheses (property taxes, social security taxes) are technically "tax revenues" as well? I have the feeling the "recursos" is getting at something more specific.
Sorry Ray, when you say "perhaps it would imply", are you then suggesting "income tax revenues" for "recursos tributarios"? I understand that property taxes (and the social security tax) also generate revenues for the government, so when Charles says "the other items mentioned are not technically tax revenues", I would love to know what (in fact) they then are. Thanks for the clarification.

Note: no one has picked up on the conflation with ingresos tributarios = TAX REVENUES as in the first web ref.

Also the asker is in Arg., so begging the question of what variety of EN is wanted: US, Can, Brit, 'offshore' etc.

There also seems to be a number of misconceptions: revenues raised DO include national insurance and social security contributions. Income tax in the UK includes income from companies and limited liability companies (but is called corporation tax), rents and other income from land (land and previously development tax), form estate and gifts (inheritance tax previously capital transfer tax) plus stamp duties.

'UK tax revenues come from a variety of sources. The main sources of tax revenue include:

Income Tax
*National Insurance*
VAT
Corporation tax
*Council Tax* (local government) > previously known as rates
Business rates
Excise duties (alcohol, cigarettes)
Other taxes include (stamp duty, carbon tax, airport tax, inheritance tax, capital gains)'
