Wk 5. French **auteur cinema*** of the 1980s and 1990s (Dr Kate Ince)
This lecture will look at several of the important strands in French cinema of the 1980s and 1990s, Europe’s highest producing film industry during these years. The so-called ‘cinéma du look’, representations of sexuality, films directed by women and 1990s ‘new realism’ have been the dominant movements of these two decades and the first years of the 21st century, and each of these movements/trends will be outlined and illustrated through clips from relevant films.
