Spanish term

convocatorias autonomas

Spanish to English Social Sciences Anthropology Spain / Mission statement of foundation promoting Galician cultural heritage
The following statement is listed under the section "Weaknesses" (i.e., of the organization with respect to carrying out the stated mission):

d) Dificultades para captar fondos en convocatorias autonómicas para personal en formación e infraestructuras por la reducción de fondos y supresión de *convocatorias autonómicas* específicas para centros de investigación ajenos al sistema universitario gallego.

Is the reference simply to "funding" or to some bidding procedure peculiear to the Spanish provinces? Or does it refer to something else entirely?

Thank you.

Discussion

Robert Forstag (asker) Oct 25, 2008:
"Autonomica" here seems to refer to the "autonomous region of galicia" in Spain.

...bids/calls within the Galician (autonomous) community....and the supression of bids...

Might make it clearer for readers who don't know too much about the Spanish 'autonomías'. I suggest avoiding the second 'autonómica'.

a convocatory is: an invitation to bid; invitation for bid; bid notice; tender notice.

independent funding drives

Looking at the ref from our colleague, these seem to be independent fundraising events by various groups (firefighter org's, etc.) benefiting the institution in question.

Perhaps an alternative could be 'benefit events', etc.

I like 'independent', or some other common English word, rather than 'autonomous' for fluidity.
My two bits.

Ah, so with the Askers clarification, perhaps we could render this query 'regional funding drive' or 'regional benefit events'.

The reference in the source does seem to me to be to efforts to raise funding gor students and for the institution, itself, from within the community.

I believe 'autonómica' is different from 'autónoma'
