Italian term

vi farà il funerale

Italian to English Art/Literary Poetry & Literature
The person speaking here is a Catholic priest, talking about the character of the people of Romagna. I am not sure what he means by "vi farà il funerale" in this context.

All help appreciated. TIA :)

"Una volta che l’oratore aveva sputato l’anima contro la Chiesa, non ce la feci a tacere. Mi alzai in piedi e gridai: ‘Creperete tutti e la Chiesa ***vi farà il funerale’.*** Lo so che il vangelo dice parole care ai nemici, ma il sangue romagnolo galoppa anche nelle vene dei preti romagnoli”

will bury you

Ciao Fiona, it's a threat as in "we will bury you", "the Church will have the last word". Insomma, ride bene chi ride ultimo :-)

will sing psalms on your grave / will outlive all of you

I paraphrased "will dance on your grave" for in this context the original sounds too flippant.

But this typacally Romagnolo "vi farà il funerale" means literally this: will outlive all of you.
