I think that "pig lead" is, as you can find in on-line dictionaries, "Crude lead cast in blocks" (this comes from http://www.thefreedictionary.com/pig lead), then it refers to PIOMBO.
Lead ingots (or lead pigs) refers to PANI... , as in the Italian sentence, therefore I find it a more accurate translation.
