I am translating a legal letter to a person in the UK. In the beginning, the lawyer writes:
"le formulo la presente, in nome e per conto del signor...."
How can I translate this? "I am writing you this letter for and in behalf of Mr...."?
Is there an expression in English to translate the verb formulare in this case?

I would leave out "you" as that is obvious. A letter is by definition written to the person it is addressed to.

I normally don't translate 'presente' in English and you don't need to say 'this letter' either - it's normally obvious to the recipient that you're writing one (as opposed to a magazine article or anything else...), perhaps this is a cultural difference.
Io normalmente non traduco 'presente' in Inglese, cioe non c'è bisogno...neanche 'this letter'. In inglese è ovvio di che si tratta, ma forse è anche una differenza culturale.
