I don't suppose there's anyone out there at this time of day (5.00 in the morning) who could help me. I've just got a complete blank as to how I could translate the word "giocarsela" in this phrase talking about an advertising medium: "Che grazie a questi [contatti] il mezzo che ha assistito alla nascita di tutti gli altri potesse **giocarsela** in un mercato così televisivo come quello italiano era poco prevedibile." Thanks, Sarah.

In this case I think it means they are competitive even in a supposedly difficult context. "Giocarsela" in sports (or competitions in general) means that the match is not unbalanced in favour of the adversary, the outcome is not decided yet, and you still have chances of prevailing if you play your cards right.
I hope I'm making sense, I'm still waking up!
