Italian term

renano

Italian to English Art/Literary History river term
From a tract about the river Tiber written in 1705 by Agostino Maria Taja. Unfortunately "renano" in modern Italian means "Rhenish" (of the Rhine), which skews internet searches. Anyone?

"La cagione di simil disastro, ed inconveniente da ciascuno veniva ascritta, perché, essendo il ripiano supremo della strada, ò la sponda superiore della ripa alta dal basso del ___renano___, e dal livello dell’acqua nella maggior decrescenza 34 palmi ben misurati, e discosta dal rasente filo del fiume la lontananza d’87 altri palmi..."

James (Jim) Davis Oct 28, 2009:
Hi Ryancolm What comes to mind is kidneys le reni. Often the word is used to indicate a place half way up the sides of something. In tunnelling and perhaps in architecture, the "reni" are at the level of the springline<br>http://www.google.com/search?source=ig&hl=en&rlz=&=&q=spring...

river bed

'Renano' derives from 'rena', that is, all that remains after a river has dried.

Hope it helps! :)

bottom of the river/river bottom

Simply a guess, but it might be.

As "rena" in Italian is also "sand", probably in this context it might mean the bottom of the river.

Of course, you're perfectly right. I was too deeply thinking about the sand, and the bottom, and forgot "...bed". Thanks.
