Italian term

asse attrezzato

Italian to English Tech/Engineering Geography town planning
This occurs in a book on town planning, written by an Italian in English. (I am an editor, not a translator.) He has rendered it as "equipped axis", which is clearly wrong. It refers to a type of urban development based along a main road.

Discussion

Russell Jones Jan 9, 2005:
Glad you've found that - and thanks for posting the information. It obviously isn't the only way the term is used though.
Non-ProZ.com Jan 9, 2005:

The following definition indicates that it is a specific type of planned ribbon or strip development, rather than a type of road, after all.

Asse attrezzato

Thanks!
Kim Metzger Jan 8, 2005:
I changed it for you. It originally appeared under English - English (English monolingual.)
Non-ProZ.com Jan 8, 2005:
Sorry, I'm new to this site. It seems to be showing as Italian>English. Is that not right?
Christian Jan 8, 2005:
Perhaps your question should be changed to Italian-English to get the correct translation for "asse attrezzato".

Dual carriageway

If you're sure of your definition, I agree with Jane. However, as she says, the term seems to be more commonly used without any implication of development, e.g.

4 KudoZ points awarded for this answer. Comment: "Having looked again at the text, the implication of urban development as well as just a type of road is probably wrong. So, I think "dual carriageway", "high-speed link road" or "urban motorway" are the best translations in this case."

ribbon development

Hello and welcome.

I'd describe the sort of development you refer to in your question as a "ribbon development"

Looking at "asse attrezzato" by itself, I hadn't come across this term before, but judging by the way it's used on lots of websites, it can simply mean a link road, without necessarily having to have retail or other developments alongside it.

Hope that helps.
