fishing nets/fishing lift nets
I don't think it refers to trees, but rather to the fishing lift nets that one can often find hanging over the lower course of many Italian rivers (in the Po Delta, or the Volturno river). They're often used to catch eels and are called 'bilance da pesca'. If you do a Google image search for 'bilance da pesca' and 'fishing lift nets' you'll see that they look very much alike.

Square fishing nets
It refers to the fishings nets used in rivers to trap the fish and catch great quantities of it. Their form is square!
