Italian term

in asse

Italian to English Art/Literary Archaeology
This term comes up repeatedly and I have found several ways of translating it.
I don't like "in line with" and "on the same axis", at least in this context.
I'd like some more ideas!

For example, in this case I think it means simply "in front" or "in clear view of"

Contestualmente alla costruzione di tale cinta viene realizzato un complesso in asse con la porta a cortile della cinta, che oblitera una preesistente abitazione.

Esso, infatti, si trova al centro del cortile, in asse con la scala di accesso al complesso.

... una phiale bronzea doveva essere collocata su un pilastrino ubicato nella parte orientale dell’edificio rettangolare del complesso, in una posizione significativamente in asse con l’area in cui è stato ipotizzato l’altare.

Thanks!

I think this is best in your context. Technically, to be precise, it means "on the same centreline as" but in this context I think that would be too punctilious.
