English term

deductible

English to Romanian Bus/Financial Insurance Social and insurance accounting
"Choice of excess (deductible, franchise): the insurer offers a premium reduction if an individual opts for an annual excess higher than the ordinary 300 Swiss francs (there is no ordinary excess for children)."

1 - Deductible : initial amount of loss paid by the insured in commercial property insurance. It is a large excess. - ???

2 - Excess : sum that a policyholder has (by agreement) to contribute to an insurance claim. It may be compulsory or voluntary. - ???

3 - Franchise : an agreed figure below which an insurance company does not have to meet a claim. A loss above the franchise figure is paid in full. -???

(Source 1, 2, 3, 4 & 5 : International Dictionary of Insurance and Finance, Clark, Chtd Inst of Bankers, Ed. Glenlake, / Fitzroy Dearborn)

Franchise and deductible are not quite the same.

Example (deductible/excess) :
You have sustained a loss of USD 1500. If your excess/deductible is USD 500, you pay the USD 500 and the insurance company takes care of the remaining USD 1000.

Example (franchise) :
You have sustained a loss of USD 1500.
If your franchise is USD 2000, your insurance company pays nothing, you have to cover the whole of the loss.
If your franchise is USD 1000, your insurance company covers the whole of the USD 1500 claim. You have nothing to pay.

4 – Self-insurance : result of a decision to stand the risk of a loss than pay a premium to an insurance company to cover it. It is used by large organizations which set aside a fund to meet losses. It is not really insurance at all.

5 – Retention : holding back money to be used for a particular purpose. In reinsurance, it is the part of the risk that remains with the direct insurer.

se pare că da
luncanlp (asker) Nov 15, 2012:
agree :) Da, așa mă gândeam și eu, doar că nu eram sigur. Aceste două exemple m-au lămurit -
1. deductible -
franchise, franchise absolue, franchise toujours absolue, franchise forfaitaire (LGA)
2. franchise deductible-
franchise décroissante (LGA)

Se pare că mă încăpățânam să fac comparație doar între anumiți termeni.
Așadar, deductible și franchise sunt ambele franșize, diferă doar tipul acestora!
Alexandranow Nov 15, 2012:
