Discussion

Mark Shimmin Dec 23, 2008:
Could this mean the liquid is sloshing around fore and aft and side to side? Thus the readings should be taken after the lquid has stopped moving around to achieve an accurate readout. Any other context to give a hint?

double motion

You can't really go wrong with motion but I understand your dilemma.

NL: beweging EN: movement, motion
Definitie: (Nederlands) elke vorm van verplaatsing van een organisme of delen daarvan ten opzichte van de omgeving

Good luck!

As I understand it, the tank moves upward and forward.

Hi Andre,

When searching for either single motion tanks or double motion tanks you get lots of hits. They seem to be a very common expressions.

Hi Denimmish,

Well, of course the liquid moves, it is pumped from a ship to a land tank, but that isn't what is really meant here.
The problem here is that we lack context. We don't know what kind of liquids are unloaded so we don't know exactly what kind of tank is used. Double motion tanks are usually mix tanks, and I think a mix tank is meant here. A double motion tank itself moves, it is used for mixing (usually) liquids. In case of a double motion mix tank it moves in two different directions, upward and downward and side to side.
Note from asker:
I understand beweging, but what is moving? the liquid inside the tank moves from side to side?
