Dutch term

aardappelventilatierooster; aardappelrooster

Dutch to English Tech/Engineering Other bulk storage of potatoes and onions
...a type of loadable ventilated floor(ing), constructed of concrete tiles with ventilation slots in them. It is used in large storage rooms to store potatoes, onions etc. so as to ensure ventilation from below.

A good Dutch example, with pictures, of an 'aardappelventilatierooster' or 'aardappelrooster': http://www.dambeton.nl/aardappelventilatieroosters.html
And an English example: http://www.onions-potatoes.com/storage/storage-systems/stora...

I was wondering if anyone had a clever English term for this, other than trying to describe it like ... 'ventilated flooring for potato storage' or some such?

Some context:

(http://www.beton-dobbelaere.be/?utm_source=truvo&utm_medium=...

Discussion

Lianne van de Ven Feb 10, 2012:
@ Dr. Lofthouse I do agree with you. I don't think there is a particular word pertaining to potatoes. However, online search seems to bring up slatted floors quite a bit in this context, more than ventilated floors.
Dr Lofthouse Feb 10, 2012:
I think 'ventilated floor' would do here; normally , you define under-floor ventilation by type, that is, as either 'natural cross flow ventilation ' or 'mechanical ventilation'. These terms just seem to describe the patterns of the lattice - if there are pictures to accompany your text, maybe 'slatted' or 'lattice-work' or 'vented' floor would do.

slatted floor (for venting)

Plastic-Coated Slatted Floors Used In Potato 'Cooler' Storage Building
old plastic-coated slatted floors designed for hog confinement buildings in our potato æcooler' storage building. We grow 15 tons of potatoes every year and put them in bags which we stack in the building. The slats help ventilate to keep them from rotting. Air is blown down through the building walls and then comes...

The basic principles that are used in a natural ventilated stores are:
that the incoming heat in the store from solar irradiation is restricted to a minimum and is removed from the store by ventilation
the surplus of field heat of the potatoes is removed soonest
that the heat produced in the respiration process of the potato is removed by ventilation
measures are taken to improve the stack ventilation (e.g. restricted piling height, pile not covered with airtide material, slatted floor, little adhering soil)
