Dutch to English Social Sciences Medical: Health Care nursing
As with the previous question, there's no real context to lean on. The term 'agogie' has been asked previously, but this?

Discussion

Robert Kleemaier (asker) Jan 22, 2014:
Foutje, bedankt! Bingo, Michael. Sorry 'bout that! :)
Michael Beijer Jan 22, 2014:
@Robert: I assume you meant to write 'bewegingsagogie', instead of 'bewegingstherapie'. But yes, I see what you mean. I am also not entirely happy with the word 'pschomotor', as I tried to show in my discussion entries with dictionary definitions.
Robert Kleemaier (asker) Jan 22, 2014:
Re 'pschomotor therapy' Michael, I wonder whether this is accurate, for the departments (vakgroepen) listed on the diploma are split up into 5 different areas and 'bewegingstherapie' is categorized (along with 'agogiek', 'bezigheidsbegeleiding' & 'logopedie') under 'agogische vakken' and not 'somatische vakken' ('anatomie', 'ziekteleer', 'neurologie', 'fysiotherapie' & 'voedingsleer'). [cf. your note on 'psychomotor therapy (2)'] HTH.
Robert Kleemaier (asker) Jan 22, 2014:
feedback Thx for the research, Michael. I seem to have missed this entry in JurLex, which would have given me a better start. Not terribly pleased with the KudoZ result(s), so I discussed the matter with a Dutch trainee in life sciences (for lack of a better word) and narrowed it down a bit, but this is a significant leap forward.

'definitions of the word 'psychomotor' in English Oxford Dictionaries (online): relating to the origination of movement in conscious mental activity
('her birth and psychomotor development up to five years of age were normal')
------------------------------
OED:

a. Inducing movement by psychic or mental action; involving such movement.

b. Med. Applied to a partial seizure or epileptic attack (distinct from grand mal and petit mal) characterized by a state of altered consciousness in which simple or complex automatisms may be performed for which there is subsequently at least partial amnesia.
------------------------------
Chambers: relating to such mental action as induces muscular contraction.
------------------------------
Merriam-Webster's: of or relating to motor action directly proceeding from mental activity

-----------------------------------------------------
That is, not quite right here.

psychomotor therapy (3) 'Psychomotor Therapist

Human beings develop socially and linguistically through their relations with others. The development of the personality and a well-functioning ego rests on a bodily foundation. This therapy called “psychomotor therapy” work with individuals and groups in the field of education, rehabilitation and therapy. By making use of movement situations and confrontations with emotional experiences, an attempt is made to restore the self-confidence and to bring about more balance in the relationship between feeling, attitude and behavior.

In conclusion, psychomotor therapy is a learning process that raises consciousness of body and mind, and activates personal resources and abilities to the body self –regulation. '

psychomotor therapy 'Psychomotor Therapy (Bewegingsagogie)'

'Abstract: In Belgium and the Netherlands, psychomotor therapy as a kind of physical activity and body-oriented therapy has been well integrated into mental health care since 1965. In contrast to its acceptance in most European countries, the term “psychomotor therapy” has not found its way into the Anglo-Saxon literature. Psychomotor therapy is defined as a method of treatment that uses body awareness and physical activities as cornerstones of its approach. In Flemish psychiatric hospitals, psychomotor therapy is imbedded in different treatment programmes for different diagnosis related patient settings'

Hmm JurLex has: 'bewegingsagoog = adapted physical activity teacher'. However, I'm not entirely convinced by this and its other entry ('bewegingsagogie = adapted physical activities').

movement therapy

Hmm. If we look at writeaway's ref:

'bewegingsagogie
(http://www.vanboeijen.nl/214/bewegingsagogie/ )

... 'movement therapy' would seem to be a good translation.

I suppose it would depend on whether the term was being used to mean a type of therapy or training ('movement training' also exists), or a discipline or study (in which case Richard's suggestion 'movement pedagogy' would be better).

'CIMT-BiT is de afkorting voor Constraint Induced **Movement Therapy** - Bimanule Training. Het is een intensieve therapie, waarbij u gestimuleerd wordt om met de aangedane arm weer diverse activiteiten uit te voeren. Dit doen wij door het vastzetten van de gezonde arm in een sling en een spalk. Daarmee wordt u gedwongen, oftewel geforceerd, om de aangedane arm te gebruiken.'
