Dutch term

dotter procedure

Dutch to English Medical Medical: Cardiology techniques
Patient overname. Zou hem toegezegd zijn op ziekenhuis dat dotter procedure op korte termijn moet plaatsvinden.

Patient transfer; apparently he was told at the hospital that **angioplasty** must be performed in the near future.

In a patient hospital release form (Netherlands). Very telegraphic in style.

Does this make sense? Can you confirm the term for "dotter"?

Many thanks in advance!

percutaneous transluminal recanalization

Suggest you translate dotter procedure (percutaneous transluminal recanalization), i.e. use the common parlance and put the scientific terminology in brackets.

agree Erik van Vliet : Depends on how long you want the translation to be, but is certainly an option.

Thank you. Doesn't increase your time because you use the full proper medical name on the first occurrence and use Dotter procedure thereafter.
neutral Barend van Zadelhoff : percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) / percutaneous transluminal coronary angioplasty (PTCA)

angioplasty

Angioplasty is a correct translation for dotteren. Dotteren and angioplastiek are synonyms. Dutch also uses the extended term Percutane Transluminale Angioplastiek (PTA), which corresponds to the extended term that Textpertise refers to.
Peer comment(s):

neutral Barend van Zadelhoff : Not specific enough, you have all kinds of 'angioplasties' You would minimally need 'coronary angioplasty' // question says 'cardiology' / also 'dotteren' generally refers to PCI and this is how anyone would understand it

Only if it's about the heart. You can also dotter a leg! :) The context doesn't specify which vein is being treated.
