Based on the apparent usage in various google hits, verrubberen can mean 'cure', 'gel', or 'rubber-coat' (among other meanings). In this context I would use 'cure'.

Chambers Dict. of Science & Technology: "rubber toughening - Many homopolymers are brittle, glassy solids at ambient temperatures but can be toughened by copolymerization with elastomeric polymers." Not sure if this is applicable in your case, though. Perhaps a more or less literal rendering as 'rubberisation' would do the trick here.
