Dutch term

reserveert iedere verdere beslissing

Dutch to English Law/Patents Law: Patents, Trademarks, Copyright jurisdiction
last one, I promise! (would have to be, this is the end...)
Is this "reserves every further decision/judgement" or "sets aside"? I'm afraid there is a distinction between the two.....I can't find anything on the Net in this regard, not even in Dutch.
Thanks all!

Discussion

Non-ProZ.com Jul 15, 2004:
no 'real' context This is the last line in the document, above all the signatures and 'aldus gewezen....' stuff. If it helps, the lines above it are:
"VERKLAART de rechtbank te 's-Gravenhage relatief ONBEVOEGD van de vorderingen kennis te nemen, voorzover daarvan ten grondslag wordt gelegd dat de XXX yyy (product) buiten de beschermingsomvang van het US-octrooi zoals verleend valt;

VERWIJST de zaak, in de stand waarin deze zich bevindt, ter verdere afdoening en beslechting naar de rechtbank te 's-Hertogenbosch;

and then comes the line above.

Please give us more background Allison. Could mean 'subject to' or 'defer', depending on context.

reserves judgment on all other matters

Just been talking to our company lawyer about it (she used to be a barrister). Apparently, this means that the court is reserving judgment on all other claims that form part of the case.

In the line beginning with 'VERKLAART', the court specifically only declines jurisdiction over claims brought on the basis that the patent does not protect the product in question. As a court case can be made up of several claims, the court is asserting that it retains jurisdiction over all other claims.

To "reserve judgment" means that a decision will be taken at a later date, pending other matters.

-> "Neil Hamilton, the disgraced former MP, may have to wait until the new year to discover whether he has been successful in his appeal against the verdict in his failed libel action against Mohamed Al Fayed, after three appeal court judges including Lord Phillips, the Master of the Rolls, **reserved judgment** yesterday."

-> "The Court can then either render a decision from the bench, in which case a formal judgment is signed, or it can **reserve judgment**, to be rendered at a later date."

-> "RESERVE JUDGMENT - To postpone a decision until all facts have been fully considered or a point of law reviewed."

4 KudoZ points awarded for this answer. Comment: "Thanks Chris and Jarry - though both answers are correct, I feel this one covers really all of the bases. I was mostly concerned about the possibility of it being 'sets aside'"

Delays delivery of any subsequent decision

My best guess.

Or indeed \'reserves any subsequent decision\'.
