Dutch term

afslag

Dutch to English Tech/Engineering Engineering (general) Motor voor pergola’s
Motor specifiek voor pergola’s met een opgevouwen doek.
Om het doek strak te houden is onderaan ook een automatische afslag nodig.

I'm not clear what this is about, but is the "doek" some kind of motor-operated sunshade?

Dutch term (edited): (automatische) afslag(schakelaar)
Selected

(automatic) cut-off switch; autostop switch; (automatic) cut-off switch

It looks like it is some kind of "automatic cut-off switch" or "autostop switch". See e.g. the GWIT:

afslagschakelaar [AUTOMOT.] = limit switch; autostop switch; cut-off switch
afslag [AUTOMOT.] (van motor) = stall; cut-off

However, I also found "afslagscheen = stop bracket" in the OGL.

But since it says "een automatische afslag", I suspect we are talking about some kind of automatic kill switch rather than some kind of bracket. Once the canopy reaches the bottom, and the whole thing is taut, the automatic cut-off switch stops the motor.

See e.g.:

"Two actuator pieces in connection with the pulley will contact "up" and "down" switches in order to automatically cut off the motor once the canopy has been closed or opened as the case may be." (http://www.google.co.uk/patents/US6058951 )

agree philgoddard : I wasn't sure what was being cut off at first, but now I think this is likely.
