Dutch term

gewaarschuwden; gewaarschuwde personen (code BA4)

Dutch to English Tech/Engineering Electronics / Elect Eng Belgian General Regulations for Electrical Installations (“Algemeen Reglement op de Elektrische Installaties
Training given to employees working in electrical installations in Belgium whereby they can receive "BA4 certification" and are then able to call themselves a so-called "gewaarschuwde persoon."

Has anyone perhaps come across an English translation of this term?

------------

Discussion

Michael Beijer (asker) Jun 17, 2011:
www.electrical-installation.org link: Using Erik Boer's link from: http://www.proz.com/kudoz/4404340#notes_section_9856804, the correct translations would then be:

"BA: Bekwaamheid van personen" = "BA: Capability of persons"; "BA4: Gewaarschuwden personen" = "BA4: Instructed persons"; "BA5: Vakbekwamen personen" = "BA5: Skilled persons"

writeaway Jun 16, 2011:
Dutch may be in a Belgian doc but it's not a specifically Belgian word afaik

accompanying safety person

This is perhaps the equivalent in the UK:

12.9 The Accompanying Safety Person is a person, not directly involved in the work or test, who has adequate knowledge, experience and ability to recognise danger, keep watch, prevent unauthorised interruption of the work, apply first-aid and summon help. The Accompanying Safety Person is to have received training in emergency first-aid in accordance with these Rules and Procedures.

12.11 The Authorised Person or Person in Charge or Skilled Person, as appropriate, responsible for the operation, work or test to be attended, are to ensure the Accompanying Safety Person understands his or her intended role as described in Clause 12.9 and how to disconnect the Equipment being worked on from all supplies of electricity, and how to switch off any test Equipment or disconnect it from the supply.

Peer comment(s):

disagree F Scott Ophof (X) : A BA4 _IS_ directly involved with the work, whereas an A.S.P is "not directly involved".

Peer comment(s):

persons (made) aware of the riscs [EN-US: risks]

Plz see 12.1-12.4 in reference, but especially:
12.2 Skilled Persons are to be aware of the extent and limits of the work to be undertaken and of any constraints on the sequence or method of working.

One can only BE aware if one has BECOME aware, ie. warned in some way.

'Fore-warned' is another way of saying 'made aware of'.
Though 'fore-warned/aware persons' go through a certification process, there is no reason to look for them in the electrical trade; they might be members of a cleaning crew. See:

The asker's link (in his 'Notes to answerer') also points to an IEC document (60364-5-51, ed 5.0) containing "BA4 Instructed persons" and "BA5 Skilled persons". That, and the asker's use of "CONCLUSIVELY"( which I fully agree with) make me want to withdraw my answer. Or give myself at least 3 negative points. How, Michael?
Note from asker:
I think this: http://www.google.co.uk/search?sourceid=chrome&ie=UTF-8&q=Ba4+and+BA5+instructed+persons+and+Skilled+persons" pretty much shows CONCLUSIVELY that in this context, "BA4 Gewaarschuwden personen" & "BA5: Vakbekwamen personen" are standard translated as: "BA4 Instructed persons" & "BA5 Skilled persons".
I'm not sure about negative points, or withdrawing your question, but it would be great if someone could enter "Instructed persons (BA4)" as an answer here... so I can select it as the correct answer and then close this question and add it to the glossary.
