[SUMMARY OF PRODUCT]
Influenza HA vaccine Kovax is the influenza HA vaccine prepared through inoculating influenza virus strain into allantoic cavity of embryonated egg and then, harvesting, purifying hemagglutinin only, which is essential for immunity induction and finally inactivating with formaldehyde. It is transparent or somewhat whitish liquid preparation.

[INDICATION]
Prevention of Influenza
[POSOLOGY and METHOD OF ADMINISTRATION]
At first year, administer by intramuscular injection with the volume below, and then if sub-strains are not changed in the subsequent year administer the same dose once a year.
1) Children of 6-35 months: one dose of 0.25 mL and then, administer one dose more after an interval of at least one week.
2) Children of 3-8 years: one dose of 0.5 mL and then, administer one dose more after an interval of at least 4 weeks.
3) Children from 9 years and Adults: one dose 0.5 mL dose
[PRECAUTIONS FOR USE]
1. Contraindications
Prior to administration, check health status of the subject by inquiry and general inspection, and auscultation of percussion if necessary. Persons who meet the following criteria should not be immunized. However, in case that ther are high-risk group of infection and immunization would give much benefit, then they could be immunized under care.
1) Fever or severe dystrophy
2) Cardiovascular, renal or liver disease in acute, exacerbating or active phase.
3) Acute respiratory disorder or other active infection
4) Latency or convalescence
5) History or anaphylaxis to the components of the product
6) Hypersensitive to egg, chicken or other chicken-derived components.
7) History of abnormal adverse reactions after vaccination or suspected allergic reactions including systemic eruption.
9) Convulsion within 1 year before vaccination
10) Severe neurologic disorders
11) Diagnosed of immune disorder
12) Other inappropriate conditions for immunization
13) Persons who are hypersensitive to thimersal
2. Special Precautions
1) Pregnancy or possible pregnancy
2) Cardiovascular disease, respiratory disorder and diabetes; these disease can be exarcerbated if the patient gets infected by influenza.
3. Adverse Reaction
1) Local reactions including rash, swelling and ache or systemic reactions including fever, chill, headache, malaise and vomiting may occur, which generally disappear within 2 or 3 days.
2) Encephalomyelitis: Acute disseminated encephalomyelitis (ADEM) may occur rarely. Signs include fever, headache, convulsion, dyscinesia and disturbance of consciousness, etc., which generally occur within several days through 2 weeks after vaccination. In case any suspicious case occurs, diagnose using MRI et. for proper treatment.
3) Very rarelly, allergic reaction or anaphylaxis shock may occur.
4) Transient impairment in systemic or local nerve tissue network, or paraethesia to irritation or pain may occur. Paralysis, neuralgia, vasculitis inducing hemorrhage or encephalitis or neuritis (ex. Guillian-Barre syndrome) have been reported.
5) This drug may cause hupersensitivity since it contains thimerosal (organic mercury formula).
4. General Precautions
1) The product should be inspected visually for abnormal turbidity, coloring and/or presence of foreign particles. In any these cases, the product should not be administrated.
2) Patients, parents or guardians should be instructed to take a rest until next day of vaccination and to keep inoculated site clean. They also should be instructed to consult doctor promptly, if high fever or convulsion, etc., occurs.
5. Use in Pregnancy
If there is an increased risk for influenza infection or influenza-related complications, pregnant women may be vaccinated after the second trimester of pregnancy. However, special care should be taken since it is not known whether it may cause fetal harm.
6. Precautions for Administration
1) Inoculating instruments should be sterilized with dry heat, autoclave ethylene oxide gas or cobalt 60-radiated y-ray and coolded down to room temperature before use.
2) Aseptically cleanse the rubber stopper and the circumference with alcohol, then insert the needle through the stopper and draw the administrating volume. Operation should be carefully conducted, not to contaminate the vial with bacteria.
3) Reconstitute the vial just prior to administration, and use promptly upon reconstitution.
4) Usually the preferred injection site is the lateral aspect of the upper arms. It should be cleansed with alcohol or iodine tincture. Do not inject at the same site repeatedly.
5) Be sure that the needle tip does not enter the blood vessel.
6) A new needle should be used for every patient.
7. Precautions for Storage.
1) Do not use a frozen product, whose quality may deteriorate.
2) The product should be brought into room temperature and shaken well before use.
3) Once opened, the product should be used during that day.
8. Other.

La Vacuna Kovax contra la Influenza HA, es una vacuna contra la influenza HA elaborada mediante la inoculación de la cepa del virus de la influenza en la cavidad alantoidea de los huevos embrionados, luego se recolectan las células, se separa solamente la hemaglutinina para purificarse la cual es indispensable para el proceso de inmunidad, y finalmente se inactivan con formaldehido. Esta preparación líquida es transparente o un tanto blanquecina.

Prevención contra la Influenza
[DOSIFICACIÓN Y VÍA DE ADMINISTRACIÓN]
Al primer año, administrar mediante una inyección intramuscular en los volúmenes descritos a continuación, sí en el siguiente año las sub-cepas no cambiaron, entonces administre la misma dosis una vez al año.
1) Niños de 6-35 meses: una dosis de 0.25 ml. y administre otra dosis después de un periodo de al menos 4 semanas.
2) Niños de 3-8 años: una dosis de 0.5 ml. y administre otra dosis después de un periodo de al menos 4 semanas.

[PRECAUCIONES PARA SU USO]
1. Contraindicaciones
Antes de administrar el medicamento, verifique el estado de salud de la persona mediante una consulta y chequeo general
y, en caso de ser necesario, realizar una auscultación de percusión.
Las personas que presentan los siguientes criterios no podrán ser vacunadas; sin embargo, en caso de que estén en un nivel de riesgo de infección alto y la vacuna pueda beneficiarles de alguna manera, entonces pueden ser vacunados bajo supervisión.
1) Fiebre o distrofia severa.
2) Enfermedades graves cardiovasculares, del riñón o del hígado, que se puedan agravar o que estén en fase activa.
3) Desórdenes respiratorios graves u otra infección activa.
4) Latencia o convalecencia.
5) Historial alérgico o anafilaxia a los componentes del producto.
6) Hipersensibilidad al huevo, pollo u otros elementos derivados del pollo.
7) Historial de reacciones adversas anormales después de aplicar la vacuna.
8) Historial de fiebre 2 días después de aplicar la vacuna, o supuestas reacciones alérgicas que incluyen erupciones sistémicas.
9) Convulsiones en un periodo de 1 año antes de ser vacunado(a).
10) Desórdenes neurológicos severos.
11) Diagnóstico de trastorno inmunológico.
12) Otras condiciones no adecuadas para la vacunación.
13) Personas que presentan hipersensibilidad al Timerosal.
2. Precauciones Especiales
1) Embarazo o posible embarazo
2) Enfermedades cardiovasculares, trastornos respiratorios y diabetes.
Estas enfermedades pueden agravarse si los pacientes se contagien del virus de la influenza.
3. Reacciones Adversas
1) Pueden presentarse reacciones locales, incluyendo salpullido, hinchazón y dolor, o reacciones sistémicas como la fiebre, escalofríos, dolor de cabeza, malestar en general y vómito, pero generalmente desaparecen después de 2 o 3 días.
2) Encefalomielitis: Pueden presentarse casos esporádicos de encefalomielitis diseminada aguda (ADEM, por sus siglas en inglés). Sus síntomas incluyen fiebre, dolor de cabeza, convulsiones, discinesia y trastornos de conciencia, entre otros, y generalmente se presentan por varios días, hasta 2 semanas después de ser aplicada la vacuna. Si existe la sospecha de uno de estos casos, se puede realizar un diagnóstico mediante una resonancia magnética para un tratamiento adecuado.
3) Pueden presentarse reacciones alérgicas muy esporádicas o un shock anafiláctico.
4) Incapacidad transitoria en los nervios locales y sistémicos de las redes de tejidos, o parestesia con irritación o dolor. Se han reportado casos de parálisis, neuralgia, vasculitis con hemorragias, encefalitis o neuritis (ej. Síndrome de Guillain-Barré).
5) Este medicamento puede provocar hipersensibilidad ya que contiene Timerosal (fórmula de mercurio orgánico).
4. Precauciones Generales
1) El producto debe ser examinado cuidadosamente para detectar alguna turbidez o coloración anormal y/o la presencia de otras partículas extrañas. En cualquiera de estos casos, no se debe de administrar el producto.
2) Se les debe de recomendar a los pacientes, padres o tutores, descansar un día después a la vacunación, así como mantener limpia el área inoculada. También, se les debe recomendar acudir inmediatamente con el médico si se presenta fiebre, convulsiones u otro síntoma.
5. Uso en el embarazo
Si existe incremento en el riesgo de contraer el virus de la influenza o de tener complicaciones relacionadas con la influenza, las mujeres embarazadas se deberán vacunar pasado el segundo trimestre de gestación. Aun así, se debe tener mucha precaución pues se desconoce el daño que le pueda causar este medicamente al feto.
6. Precauciones para la Administración del Producto
1) Los instrumentos para la inoculación deberán ser esterilizados con calor seco, autoclaves de gas de óxido de
etileno o radiación con rayos gama de cobalto 60, y luego enfriarse a temperatura ambiente antes de ser utilizados.
2) Limpie muy bien el tapón de goma y la circunferencia con alcohol, después inserte la aguja a través del tapón y saque la cantidad de medicamento que utilizará. La operación deberá realizarse cuidadosamente para no contaminar el vial con bacterias.
3) Reconstituir el vial justo antes de la administración y aplícarlo inmediatamente.
4) Usualmente, el lugar más propicio para inyectar es el costado superior del brazo. Debe de limpiarse muy bien el área con alcohol o tintura de yodo. No inocule en el mismo sitio repetidamente.
5) Asegúrese de que la punta de la aguja no penetré ningún vaso sanguíneo.
6) Se debe de utilizar una aguja nueva con cada paciente.
7. Precauciones de Almacenamiento
1) No utilice un producto congelado cuya calidad pudiera haberse deteriorado.
2) El producto deberá estar a temperatura ambiente y agitarse bien antes de usarse.
3) Una vez abierto el producto, se deberá utilizar solo ese día.
8. Otros
Los nombres de las cepas utilizadas y las unidades deben especificarse en el empaque.
