I think most, if not all life stages, have their ups and downs. And most people tend to value different things at different times. For example, I rarely go out to socialise nowadays, whereas as a young adult it was all about getting smashed and "partying"...

I’m in the present and I’m enjoying my “retirement” years. Most of my adult years were both productive and exciting. I wouldn’t go back to my teens and young adult years for all the money in the world!

I have fantastic memories of when I grew up in Swaziland and the whole time I have spent in Germany until today has been great as well, not to mention having a wonderful wife and fantastic children and having the time to spend with them.
I cannot really complain about anything in my life and there are always worse things going on in the world anyway.

Returning to University Jul 22, 2017

The best time of my life was returning to University (for the third time) to study translation. I would love to be able to do my time there over again. I made a lot of friends, there were plenty of extra-curricular activities and I enjoyed learning my second source language (Italian) there.

My freelance years!

Life seems to get better as I get older--certainly a lot easier in terms of how it works. (In my memoir, "Finding My Invincible Summer," I wrote about getting through some difficult times when I was younger and eventually finding peace and inner contentment.)

Trying to compare different times of life is like comparing apples with oranges: each is good in different ways. The important thing is to make the best of each.

Every single moment of my life is the best, as I'm alive. Sad moments? Sure! But I enjoy my life every single day!

Hmm, now why did I suggest this poll? Jul 22, 2017

I do vaguely remember suggesting it. I think it was in response to continually hearing the old chestnut about your school years being the best of your life. I hated those years, both at the time and looking back on them. I know there were highs as well as lows but they certainly weren't great. And adolescence is never an easy time. Things started looking up after that but I married too young, at 20. Once I'd eventually sorted out who I wanted to share my life with (35th wedding anniversary yeste... See more

Things started looking up after that but I married too young, at 20. Once I'd eventually sorted out who I wanted to share my life with (35th wedding anniversary yesterday!), I managed to get down to enjoying it, and they've just got better - with the inevitable hiccups.

Funny you should say that. My experience has been exactly the opposite. I was a very demure, stay-at-home person until I reached about 55. Now we hit town two or three nights a week, sometimes until 3 am or so although midnight is more usual - and more easy to cope with. I can't imagine things getting better from here on, with the onset of health problems and reduced mobility although I hope they don't go downhill too fast, so "middle-age" is definitely my choice.
