Under the title "Human Interaction" I would like to describe three types of human interaction: Technical Support, Community Participation, and Team Projects.
Technical Support
CafeTran Espresso
When you purchase a license for CafeTran Espresso, you also get access to technical support. You will need to create a ticket in the CafeTran Freshdesk. You can create a project package (Project > Export and Exchange > To Package...) and attach it to your support ticket.
OmegaT
Actually there is no "official" technical support for OmegaT: you can't create a ticket. However, there is an active user community that can help you (see below).
Community participation
CafeTran Espresso
Currently, communication between users and the developers of CafeTran Espresso takes place on the Proz.com forum you are visiting and in the CafeTran Espresso Freshdesk forums. The Proz forum post editor is rather limited and you cannot delete your own messages after 24 hours.
The Freshdesk is designed as a software support medium. It allows you to create tickets and post to forums. The forum editor is quite limited: it doesn't accept markdown, tables, and other features that are now considered basic for forums. Forums are well structured. The search function works well.
OmegaT
Although OmegaT has its own forum on Proz.com, posting there is discouraged. Instead, it is recommended that you post to the omegat-users user support group, which is accessible via OmegaT's Sourceforge site. You will get access to the mailing list archives and there is a search function available. However, due to the nature of a mailing list, the information isn't presented in a well-structured way.
Team Projects
CafeTran Espresso
CafeTran Espresso offers three different ways to work in teams:
- Rendezvous Memory Server
- Total Recall System
- Cloud Services
More information from the developer can be found here.
OmegaT
There are two ways of sharing translation memories:
- Share TMX files via cloud services
- Set up a team project. I'm not sure if this allows you to share other project-related files as well.
